A 19-year-old man is set to appear in court following charges related to a deadly collision near Newcastle, New South Wales, over the weekend. The incident occurred around 2:40 am on Sunday when a Commodore sedan and a Hyundai sedan collided on Newcastle Road at North Lambton. Reports suggest that police had attempted to pull over the Commodore prior to the crash.

Tragically, a 55-year-old female passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old driver of the Hyundai, initially reported to be in serious condition, has since been taken to hospital where she remains. It was later revealed that she was pregnant and lost her unborn child as a consequence of the accident.

In addition, two teenage girls aged 15 and 17 who were in the back seat of the Commodore were also hospitalised, both in a serious condition.

Following the incident, police allege that the driver and front-seat passenger of the Commodore fled the scene before officers arrived. Later, a 19-year-old man was located and arrested at a residence in Mayfield, Newcastle. He has been charged with several offences, including dangerous driving causing death. The Wallsend resident has been refused bail and is expected to face court later today.
