A man has been charged with murder following the death of a 41-year-old woman at a residence in Alice Springs. Northern Territory Police were alerted to the incident at a property in the Braitling area around 8am on Sunday. Upon emergency services’ arrival, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accused, a 39-year-old man known to the victim, has been remanded in custody and is set to appear in court today. This charge comes in the wake of an earlier alleged domestic violence incident in the nearby suburb of Larapinta, where police received reports of a woman clinging to the bonnet of a speeding white Holden Commodore. The driver, aged 42 and known to the victim, reportedly accelerated towards her after a dispute, forcing her onto the vehicle. She was subsequently thrown off the car on Zeal Street as the driver attempted to strike her again before fleeing the scene.
Miraculously, the woman was left unharmed, and no arrests have been made pertaining to this incident. Investigations are ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information about either occurrence to reach out to Crime Stoppers. Support for those affected by domestic violence is available through the National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling Service.
