A 34-year-old man from Duncraig has been charged with dangerous driving following a serious incident in Hillarys that injured two teenage boys. The event began when the man allegedly pursued the teens on an electric motorbike, resulting in a collision where his Toyota sedan clipped the bike, crashed into a parked Nissan, and subsequently rolled over, pushing the Nissan into a nearby fence.
CCTV footage shows the Toyota allegedly chasing the teens as they rode down the incorrect side of Flinders Avenue. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud screech followed by a significant bang and screams as the crash unfolded. Local residents were first on the scene, discovering the injured boys, one of whom had visible injuries to his knee. Thankfully, both teens were taken to Perth Children’s Hospital but are expected to fully recover, raising concerns among the community regarding similar potential dangers in the area.
Officials report that this stretch of Flinders Avenue, with a 50 km/h speed limit, has a history of reckless driving incidents, prompting calls from residents for measures such as speed humps to enhance safety. One local emphasised their fears about the speeding vehicles while crossing the road, stating that many feel unsafe due to the actions of reckless drivers.
The accused driver was arrested at the scene and faced court over the incident, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety in the suburb.
