A man was discovered in a Melbourne street early this morning with a gunshot wound after crashing a stolen car into a pole. The 38-year-old victim was found yelling in agony, having collapsed in the gutter. A neighbouring resident, who responded to the sound of gunfire, rushed out in a dressing gown to assist him, applying pressure to his wound to help stem the bleeding.

The incident occurred around 9am on Raleigh’s Road in Melton. Emergency services were quick to respond, and the injured man was promptly taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he is currently under police guard.

In the aftermath, local authorities cordoned off four blocks to establish a crime scene. During their investigation, police uncovered a shotgun just a short distance from the site of the crash. A suspect was apprehended in the vicinity, but further details regarding this arrest remain unclear.

The stolen Volkswagen T-Cross involved in the incident has since been towed away from the scene.
