Concerns have arisen for a man who is currently missing after a car slid down a boat ramp and entered the waters off Sydney’s lower north shore. The incident occurred around 4:20 pm at Manns Point in Greenwich when the car accelerated through a car park, collided with a woman, crashed through a fence, and ultimately plunged into the Parramatta River.
Emergency services arrived promptly, with paramedics and police already attending to the injured woman, who had also ended up in the water. Two nearby swimmers had entered the river to assist her. The woman sustained injuries to her lower leg and was transported to the Royal North Shore Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a suspected broken ankle, along with other bruises and abrasions.
Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry reported that visibility was poor, and the car is believed to be submerged approximately 10 metres underwater. Efforts to locate the vehicle have been hampered by its depth and the movement of the waves, which may have caused the car to drift. Dewberry expressed grave concerns for the missing man, noting the urgency of the situation as the vehicle was taking on water rapidly.
Police divers are prepared to search the area of the harbour to find the submerged car, but as daylight waned, Dewberry indicated that recovery efforts would likely be postponed until the following day.
