A man has been arrested and a woman is currently on the run following a dramatic incident in Melbourne, where a car crashed into a barrier and overturned near a tram station early this morning. Police were dispatched to the scene on Racecourse Road in Flemington around 1:45 AM.

Witnesses reported seeing the pair attempting to break the windscreen of the crashed vehicle before they took several items from it and fled the scene. A police Dog Squad officer later located the man hiding in a recycling bin in a nearby laneway. The suspect, thought to be in his twenties, has since been arrested and is under police guard in hospital.

Authorities suspect that the vehicle involved in the crash was stolen. A subsequent search of the car uncovered a firearm, illicit drugs, and a machete, raising concerns about the nature of the incident. Meanwhile, the woman involved remains at large, and police continue efforts to locate her.

Anyone with any information regarding this case is encouraged to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or via their website.
