A man has been apprehended in connection with a series of suspicious fires in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The police were alerted around 3:20 am on Thursday, March 18, regarding a vehicle engulfed in flames in Edgecliff, where they discovered a Mitsubishi SUV fully ablaze. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was beyond repair.

While establishing a crime scene, authorities soon encountered another fire just ten minutes later, discovering a burnt chair at the intersection of Glenmore Road and Cascade Street in Paddington. Investigators are now linking this incident to a previous fire that occurred on Jersey Road in Paddington on September 19 of last year.

In response to the incidents, police have released CCTV footage showing a man believed to have been present in the vicinity during the time of the SUV fire. The individual is described as approximately 180cm tall, of medium build, with long black hair. Shortly after the footage was made public, a 20-year-old man was taken into custody at Waverly Police Station.

The investigation into these fires continues as officers seek to uncover further details surrounding these suspicious incidents.
