A man has been detained in connection with the tragic and suspicious death of a four-week-old infant in south-western New South Wales this year. Authorities were alerted when the baby was brought to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital on July 27, 2023, in a critical state. Upon examination, medical professionals noted the infant had sustained multiple serious injuries with no clear explanation.

Following initial treatment, the baby was transferred to Sydney Children’s Hospital, where he sadly passed away three days later. In response to the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, the case was handed over to the Child Abuse Squad for further investigation.

This morning, a 26-year-old man, who is reportedly known to the infant, was apprehended in Albury’s central business district around 10am. He has since been taken to Albury Police Station for questioning. At this stage, no formal charges have been brought against him, but police have indicated that they will provide further updates later today.
