A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the deadly shooting of 18-year-old Ekam Sahni in Newcastle, New South Wales. Sahni was shot in the chest at the Bar Beach carpark around 11:40 pm on Wednesday. Following a scuffle between two groups at the location, witnesses reported that a white Volvo SUV arrived on the scene. A man, reportedly armed with a rifle, exited the vehicle and fired several shots, striking Sahni before fleeing the area.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but unfortunately, Sahni was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics. Later, on Thursday at approximately 11:20 am, authorities arrested the suspect at the Newcastle Police Station. As of now, no formal charges have been filed against him.
The police investigation is ongoing, with inquiries surrounding the incident continuing. They revealed that the white Volvo, purportedly used in the shooting, was a stolen vehicle. Following the incident, this car was later found burnt out approximately 20 minutes from the crime scene, at Tingira Heights.
