A tragic fire in Maryborough, Victoria, has resulted in the death of a man and left a two-year-old child in a critical condition. The incident unfolded just after 11.30am at a single-storey residence on Barr Street, prompting firefighters to take nearly 30 minutes to douse the flames.
The unidentified man was found inside the home in cardiac arrest and unfortunately could not be revived. The young child was also rescued and airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital due to life-threatening injuries. In addition, two women, aged in their 30s and 60s, along with a three-year-old, escaped the blaze with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have confirmed that the victims are believed to be related but have stated it is too early to ascertain the cause of the fire. Senior Sergeant David Flood assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted. A crime scene has been established, with both police and arson squad personnel expected to remain on-site for some time. Currently, the fire is not considered suspicious.
