A 30-year-old man, Immadeen Sayed, has been convicted of murder following a fatal machete attack that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Atbin Razavianroudbarden at a petrol station in Perth’s northern suburbs in July 2023. During the trial, Sayed argued that he acted in self-defence while attempting to protect his brother and niece during an altercation. However, after deliberating for six hours, the jury rejected his defence and found him guilty.

Razavianroudbarden’s family was visibly emotional in the courtroom as the verdict was announced. They remembered him as a gentle and kind individual well-loved within the community.

Security footage from the Lansdale 7-Eleven convenience store showed Sayed arriving after his brother had called for help due to a fight. The footage did not display the concealed machete that Sayed used in the attack. Following the incident, he fled the scene and later confessed to his girlfriend, expressing concern about having hurt someone.

Sayed has been in custody since the event and is scheduled to return to court in two months for sentencing. The brother of the deceased, Cyrus Takhfifi, expressed the tragedy’s impact on their community, stating it is a significant loss that no family should endure.
