A tragic shooting occurred at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, during a wedding on Saturday. One man, identified as 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, was killed, and two others sustained injuries. The 23-year-old suspect, Hunter Nadeau, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the shooting of DeCesare, with additional charges anticipated for the other victims.
Authorities initially suspected there could be multiple shooters but later confirmed Nadeau acted alone. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and investigators noted there is no known connection between Nadeau and the victim. The condition of the wounded individuals was not immediately disclosed.
Eyewitness Tom Bartelson described the scene as chaotic, stating he heard Nadeau mention “the children are safe” and “free Palestine,” suggesting a targeted attack amidst the joyful celebration. Bartelson recounted how guests ducked for cover upon hearing the gunfire, noting that panic quickly spread among attendees.
DeCesare’s mother, Evie O’Rourke, expressed her devastation, stating that her son was shot while his wife and granddaughter escaped unharmed. Other witnesses described seeing a man dressed in black with a mask, raising a gun before they fled in fear.
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess expressed confidence in the police’s ability to resolve the situation and urged communities to recognise the potential for violence, regardless of how unlikely it may seem. Meanwhile, US Representative Maggie Goodlander voiced her condolences towards the victims and the local community, emphasising the gravity of the incident.
The shooting has left the Nashua community in shock and mourning.
