Police responded to an incident at the Collingwood Police Station in Melbourne early today, following reports of a man breaking into the unstaffed facility. The alarm at the restricted area was activated around 12:10 AM, prompting nearby officers to investigate.
Witnesses allege the suspect obstructed a police vehicle parked outside before smashing the station’s front window to gain entry. Upon arrival, officers encountered resistance from the individual, who was reportedly uncooperative. To subdue him, police employed a Taser and capsicum spray, resulting in his eventual arrest. However, due to his state at the time, he was deemed unfit for interrogation, and the investigation is ongoing.
In response to questions regarding the station’s staffing status during the incident, a spokesperson for Victoria Police confirmed that the reception area was closed to the public and indicated that a review of the circumstances and security measures surrounding the police station would take place. Local officials are set to assess both the immediate situation and broader security protocols.
