A man has been charged following a reported robbery at a jewellery store in Sydney’s CBD. The incident occurred around 4:20 pm on a Tuesday at Silva & Goldy, a small establishment situated in an arcade off Pitt Street. The assailant, disguised with a yellow bandana and helmet, was captured on CCTV seizing trays of jewellery during a brief confrontation with the shopkeeper, a mother of three, who attempted to leave but was blocked by him. Astonishingly, shoppers passing by remained oblivious to the unfolding chaos.
After the robbery, the suspect fled through a fire escape onto Pitt Street, where he is believed to have had an e-scooter waiting, absconding with over $100,000 worth of jewellery. Reports suggest that prior to the jewellery heist, the same individual was seen on CCTV inside nearby Woolworths and Big W, where he reportedly stole a pair of gloves.
Subsequently, police executed a search warrant at a unit on Kellick Street in Waterloo the following morning. As officers arrived, the suspect unexpectedly returned to the unit, only to dash away upon spotting the police presence. However, when police searched the premises, they discovered 42 pieces of jewellery, a Glock pistol, and various identification documents under different names.
The suspect eventually returned to the unit around 3 PM and was taken into custody. He now faces charges of robbery and breaching bail conditions, and was scheduled to appear in Parramatta Bail Court.
