A 33-year-old man from Western Australia has been charged with trespassing after being discovered on the tarmac at Perth Airport. Airline staff intervened on Tuesday night after the individual allegedly made his way from nearby bushland onto airport grounds and reached the tarmac area. The Australian Federal Police apprehended him, and he subsequently pleaded guilty to trespassing on Commonwealth land. If convicted, he could face a maximum fine of $3,130, and is scheduled for sentencing on May 25.
AFP Detective Acting Inspector Aden Jama highlighted the hazards posed by unauthorized individuals being present near aircraft, noting the risks to both the trespasser and airport personnel. He emphasised the seriousness of the situation, warning that trespassing on Commonwealth land or entering secured areas without the required authorization will lead to legal consequences.
The AFP is responsible for maintaining security at nine major airports across Australia, and members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity by calling Airport Watch at 131 237.
