A man has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal house fire that claimed the life of his wife in Queensland. Cameron Hunt, aged 45, is accused of deliberately starting the fire on Monday night at their home in Geham, near Toowoomba. The blaze was so intense that it caused the structure to collapse.
Hunt’s case was heard in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court, where prosecutors indicated that the legal proceedings would likely extend for several months due to the gravity of the allegations. He faces charges of domestic violence murder as well as arson.
Tragically, the body of Louise Hunt was discovered among the ruins of the home. Authorities allege that her husband intentionally set the fire with the intention of killing her. Following the incident, Hunt was arrested in Redcliffe, after reportedly driving over 200 kilometres from the scene in a Ford Ranger. Notably, he was absent from court for the hearing, and the police requested a three-month adjournment for the case.
The investigation into the fire continues as the community grapples with the tragic loss and the serious nature of the allegations.
