Emergency services were alerted to a residence on Churchill Avenue in Ascot Vale around 4am on Saturday following reports of an injured individual. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 36-year-old man from Ascot Vale who had sustained fatal stab wounds at the government housing estate.
A 29-year-old man, also from Ascot Vale, was apprehended at the location and, although he had minor injuries, was taken to the hospital under police supervision. Later that day, he was charged with murder and common law assault.
The accused is set to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today. Investigators believe that the individuals involved were familiar with one another.
