A 35-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of a 71-year-old man in New South Wales. Police allege that on Tuesday around 10:30 AM, the younger man tried to suffocate the elderly victim at a residence in Macquarie Hills, located near Lake Macquarie. The two men were reportedly known to each other.
Following the incident, the 71-year-old managed to escape the house and received medical attention from paramedics shortly after. The police were alerted to the situation and initiated an investigation.
The 35-year-old suspect was apprehended at a Macquarie Hills home just after 5 AM the following day. He has been charged with the attempted strangulation or suffocation of the older man with the intent to murder, in a domestic violence context.
The suspect has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear at Belmont Local Court tomorrow.
