A man has been arrested following a dramatic incident involving a Woolworths delivery driver who was allegedly assaulted and robbed of his truck in Bankstown, Sydney, early yesterday morning. The incident took place at approximately 5:45 am, just as the 23-year-old driver was preparing to deliver his first order of the day. He was approached by an assailant, who reportedly shocked him before committing the assault.

After the attack, the driver was transported to Bankstown Hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, later in the morning, police spotted the stolen truck on the Princes Highway in Rockdale and attempted to stop it. However, the driver failed to comply, leading to a pursuit that stretched through multiple suburbs.

As the chase progressed toward Wolli Creek, the truck collided with four parked vehicles but continued to evade police. Authorities ultimately decided to halt the pursuit due to safety concerns, but they maintained aerial surveillance of the vehicle using a helicopter. The truck then merged onto the M8, eventually heading west on the M4.

The chase concluded when road spikes deployed on the Great Western Highway at Glenbrook successfully disabled the truck. Following this, police approached the vehicle, using a Taser to subdue the 29-year-old suspect, who sustained minor injuries during his arrest and was taken to a medical facility for evaluation.

The man now faces serious charges, including armed robbery, failing to stop for police, driving while disqualified, resisting police efforts, and possessing an improperly affixed identity plate. He has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court.
