A man has been charged following a police shooting incident that took place in south-eastern Melbourne on Friday morning. The situation unfolded at approximately 5.30am when a vehicle reportedly failed to stop during an attempted traffic intercept by Victoria Police on Police Road in Mulgrave.
During the encounter, a 29-year-old female passenger, allegedly armed with a firearm, was involved in a confrontation with the police, which led to her being shot. She was subsequently taken to hospital, where she is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man, was apprehended at the scene. He faces a total of 21 charges, which include serious offences such as reckless conduct endangering life, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, aggravated carjacking, robbery, and theft of a motor vehicle.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
