A disturbing incident in Guildford West, Sydney, has left a man and a woman in hospital after they were stabbed multiple times during a home invasion. The assault, which occurred around 11pm, is believed by police to be a case of mistaken identity.

Emergency services responded to calls indicating that two masked men had forced their way into a residence on McCredie Road. The victims, a 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both occupants of the home, sustained multiple stab wounds during the attack. Fortunately, three children under the age of ten were also present in the house but were unharmed.

The assailants fled the scene as neighbours intervened, escaping in a white sedan driven by a third individual that was waiting nearby. The assailants sped off south along Lomond Street.

Both victims were transported to hospital, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition. Authorities assert that this violent encounter appears to have arisen from a case of mistaken identity, emphasising the randomness of the attack.
