A 32-year-old man has been charged with various offences following a police pursuit in Perth’s eastern suburbs. The incident commenced last Tuesday when the driver, operating a white Mercedes Benz X156 hatchback, allegedly cut in front of a marked police car in Cannington, necessitating evasive action from the officers.
After briefly tracking the hatchback, police activated their emergency lights and sirens on Nicholson Road, urging the vehicle to stop. However, the driver reportedly failed to comply, leading to a short chase that was subsequently abandoned over safety concerns for the public.
Later that same Tuesday, at approximately 2:15 AM, a blue Toyota Camry was reported stolen from a residence on Hyland Way in Wilson. Police spotted the stolen Camry on Great Eastern Highway in Ascot around 11:00 AM and again attempted to intercept it using emergency signals. The driver neglected to halt and instead sped away, exhibiting reckless and erratic driving.
The man is alleged to have dumped the Camry in the carpark of a licensed venue on James Street in Guildford shortly thereafter. Following this, he fled on foot and reportedly broke into the rear of a nearby home on Ethel Street.
Authorities apprehended the suspect outside a property on Ethel Street at roughly 11:10 AM. He now faces charges that include trespassing, stealing a motor vehicle, and reckless driving, along with various other driving-related offences. Moreover, police are alleging that the man has been operating a vehicle without a licence on multiple occasions, specifically on May 25, June 10, and June 11.
The arrest follows a series of alarming events that highlight various issues regarding public safety and vehicle theft in the area.
