A 66-year-old Sydney man is facing serious allegations for reportedly orchestrating over a dozen staged car accidents to fraudulently collect insurance payouts exceeding $390,000. Over a span of three years, he allegedly instigated 16 collisions involving a total of 45 vehicles in the Canterbury Bankstown vicinity of south-west Sydney.

Authorities assert that the man employed false identities to secure third-party insurance policies for vehicles, which were subsequently used to engineer crashes with parked cars. As a result of these staged incidents, insurance companies disbursed a total of $390,480.

The accused individual was apprehended at Sydney Airport and has been charged with two counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage through deception. Following his arrest at Mascot Police Station, he was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in Bankstown Local Court today.
