A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck early today in Western Australia, occurring around 180 kilometres east of Perth in the Wheatbelt region shortly after 2am (AWST). According to Geoscience Australia, the tremor originated near Wyalkatchem at a depth of 1 kilometre. The quake was widely felt across the south-west of the state, reaching areas including Perth and extending as far as Kalgoorlie. Fortunately, no damage has been reported following the incident.
