The Dolphins faced a significant setback as Jack Bostock appeared to sustain a serious knee injury, potentially an ACL tear, during their match against the Knights. The incident occurred in the 27th minute when Bostock attempted to return a kick but fell awkwardly before making contact. A loud crack was heard as he went to the ground, clutching his already strapped knee, prompting immediate medical attention.

Commentators Steve Roach and Warren Smith noted the severity of the injury, highlighting it as a non-contact event that visibly upset Bostock. The winger, who had scored nine tries in just 12 matches this season, had to be supported off the field, which was a poignant moment for those watching.

The match itself got off to a rocky start for the Dolphins, with the Knights scoring early. Despite the injury blow, the Dolphins managed to respond shortly after, with Kodi Nikorima scoring, before the Knights regained their dominance. Bradman Best and new signing Dom Young added to the Knights’ tally, pushing the score to 16-4.

Even with a player down, the Dolphins showed resilience and narrowed the gap with a try from Connelly Lemuelu just before half-time, ending the first half at 16-10 in favour of Newcastle. However, the Knights pulled away in the second half, ultimately winning the match 26-10.

This injury to Bostock is a cause for concern for the Dolphins as they continue through the season.
