Just a week after their highly publicised split, the Liberal Party and the Nationals have officially reinstated their political partnership. Opposition Leader Sussan Ley is poised to announce her shadow cabinet later today, having secured a new Coalition agreement with Nationals leader David Littleproud.
However, tensions remain, as Ley indicated that Littleproud’s request to allow his party to operate independently from cabinet solidarity—an issue reportedly not raised during the Nationals’ internal discussions about the split—was a major sticking point for the Liberals. As a result, this demand proved a dealbreaker, complicating their alliance.
An announcement regarding the shadow cabinet is anticipated later today.
