A Brisbane woman, Ineke McMahon, was left stunned after experiencing an unusual theft when her lemon tree was stolen from her front yard. The incident, which took place overnight, was captured on CCTV, revealing a white sedan that drove past her home before circling back and parking nearby around 4.10am.
McMahon discovered her tree missing after returning home from dropping her children at school on Friday morning, only to notice a trail of dirt leading up the street from where the tree once stood. Following the CCTV footage, viewers can see a woman stealthily entering the camera’s view, quickly uprooting the tree, placing it into a bag, and then fleeing the scene.
The lemon tree had been planted just five months prior, and it was beginning to flourish and produce fruit. McMahon expressed her disappointment, sharing with Today reporter Mia Glover that she hoped the tree would benefit the whole neighbourhood, particularly for making gin and tonics. This peculiar theft has sparked a mix of shock and curiosity, leaving the community wondering about the motivations behind such an unusual heist.
