A tragic car accident in the Hunter Valley has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy, with his 16-year-old brother currently fighting for his life in Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital. The incident occurred on John Renshaw Drive at Black Hill around 9pm, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered that a Holden Commodore had collided with a Ford Ute. The deceased, Hayden, was the learner driver of the Holden and unfortunately passed away at the scene. His brother, Daniel, who was seated in the back, received treatment from paramedics before being airlifted to the hospital in critical condition, and reports indicate that he has been placed in an induced coma.
The boys’ mother, Mary Fenech, expressed her devastation, describing her sons as the “apples of my eye.” She characterised them as “beautiful boys” with “lovely manners,” highlighting their respectful and kind nature.
Their uncle, who was a passenger in the Holden, suffered injuries but was deemed stable and transported to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment. The 62-year-old driver of the Ute sustained only minor injuries and was also taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.
As investigations into the crash continue, police have established a crime scene, and a report will be prepared for the coroner to ascertain further details surrounding this unfortunate event.
