Labor is poised to secure the pivotal South Australian seat of Sturt from the Liberal Party. Liberal MP James Stevens held the constituency, situated in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, with a slim margin of just 0.5 per cent leading up to the elections.
As nearly 13 per cent of votes have been tallied, ALP candidate Claire Clutterham appears well-positioned to seize this traditionally Liberal stronghold. This seat has been under Liberal control since 1972 and was previously represented by former defence minister Christopher Pyne for a remarkable 26 years.
If Clutterham succeeds, she would become only the third Labor representative to win in this long-held Liberal bastion.
