Australian boxing icon Jeff Fenech has addressed his separation from protege Brock Jarvis, noting significant changes in Jarvis over recent years. Fenech, who has been in Jarvis’s corner for all 22 of his professional fights—only losing once to fellow Australian Liam Paro—won’t be present for Jarvis’s upcoming match against American fighter Keith Thurman.
While specifics regarding their split remain ambiguous, Fenech expressed his feelings about not supporting Jarvis during this pivotal fight. He revealed that although he has great affection for Jarvis, he has observed a transformation in him, stating, “He’s an adult now. He makes his own decisions.” Fenech disclosed that he disagrees with some choices Jarvis has made, which contributed to their falling out.
Fenech emphasised his desire to maintain full control and responsibility in his coaching role. He explained, “If I’m the trainer or the coach, I want to take full responsibility as long as they listen to me.” He expressed frustration at not being able to guide Jarvis effectively if his advice isn’t adhered to.
This split marks a turning point in both their careers, stirring curiosity about the future of Jarvis as he faces formidable opponents without the guidance of a seasoned trainer like Fenech.
