A stage invader charged after interrupting Katy Perry’s concert in Sydney has shared that he did it simply for fun. Identified as Johnson Wen, or “Pyjama Man” online, he revels in the adrenaline rush of crashing stages. Wen recounted his experience, stating, “I said ‘let me get on stage with you’ and Katy freaked out when she realised I wasn’t part of the show.”
His excitement for stage invasions is evident, as he has previously disrupted events globally, including the Olympics in Paris, the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the Cricket World Cup final in India. He described creating “extra Fortnite moves” before being swiftly tackled by security during his last invasion in India, citing the excessive security presence.
Wen insists he poses no threat and believes his actions highlight significant security weaknesses at such events. Despite being previously banned from Olympic Park for another stage intrusion involving The Weeknd, he attended the recent concert at Qudos Bank Arena. At 25 years old, Wen, who lives in a backpacker’s hostel and is unemployed, has accumulated around $20,000 in fines from his antics.
After his latest stage invasion, Wen was arrested and charged with trespassing and obstructing a person doing their job. He later expressed that this would be the last time he gets into trouble, stating, “I’m planning to quit forever because you get in way too much trouble for it, especially me, because I’ve done it so many times.”
Currently, he has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear in Burwood Local Court in June. Following this incident, he has been banned from the Olympic Park precinct for the next six months.
