Joseph Parker is currently uncertain about his future in boxing after Daniel Dubois unexpectedly withdrew from their heavyweight title match due to illness, without providing any official explanation. Parker, who recently scored a quick second-round knockout over Martin Bakole—Dubois’ last-minute substitute—expressed confusion regarding Dubois’ absence during an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show. He speculated that Dubois might have been grappling with health issues, especially given that Oleksandr Usyk had publicly expressed interest in fighting Dubois right before his withdrawal.

Parker voiced his frustrations about the situation, suggesting that he feels somewhat sidelined as his opportunity to fight for the world title seemingly slips away. He remarked, “It does feel that way,” referring to his concerns about being overlooked as a contender, particularly with Usyk’s match-up looming after the Dubois withdrawal. Parker is eager for a chance to prove himself against Usyk, whom he regards as an exceptional fighter. However, he remains uncertain about the next steps in his career, expressing a willingness to compete against any opponent who could lead him to a world title shot.

Given that Parker was originally slated to face Dubois, speculation is rife that he should be the one to take on Usyk next. The heavyweight landscape is currently in flux; Usyk possesses four of the five major titles, making him a pivotal player in the division. Parker feels in limbo, hoping for clarity in his path forward, which could segue into a rematch with Anthony Joshua—a tantalising prospect for both fighters, as they have evolved since their first clash in 2018.

With a record of 36 wins, including 24 by knockout, Parker is still a formidable presence in the heavyweight division, striving to remain competitive amidst the chaos of scheduling and health issues affecting other fighters. As he continues to train and prepare, he remains focused on securing a title shot, while also expressing interest in revisiting his rivalry with Joshua. Parker’s determination indicates that he is ready to fight anyone to reclaim his standing among the heavyweight elite.
