Jarome Luai is currently awaiting the decision from the match review committee following his placement on report for high contact during the Tigers’ narrow 26-24 defeat to the Warriors. In the early moments of the second half, Luai was involved in a tackle against Edward Kosi, resulting in a penalty as he was deemed to have made high contact. Although Luai argued that he had connected with Kosi’s shoulder, the referee still issued a report.
Warren Smith, a commentator for Fox League, noted that previously, such a tackle might have resulted in Luai being sent off. The game saw some early chaos for the Tigers, notably with Adam Doueihi ruled out due to a groin injury just before kick-off. The match itself unfolded as an even contest, with both teams trading tries and finishing the first half at 12-12. Tigers’ Fonua Pole and Starford To’a scored for their team, while Adam Pompey and Marata Niukore found the try line for the Warriors.
After half-time, Warriors half Luke Metcalf put his team ahead, but the Tigers fought back with two quick tries, bringing the score to 24-18 in their favour. However, with only ten minutes remaining, Leka Halasima equalised for the Warriors. Shortly after, Tigers’ Alex Seyfarth was also reported for a high tackle on Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, resulting in a penalty that Metcalf converted, sealing the Warriors’ victory.
Kosi left the field for a head injury assessment but returned to play. The Tigers will have a significant challenge ahead as they face the Broncos next Saturday at Suncorp Stadium, while the Warriors will enjoy a bye week.
