Jake Paul responded to Canelo Alvarez’s recent decision to forgo a potential fight with him for a lucrative four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. In a social media post, Paul accused Alvarez of being motivated by money and influenced by those who are financially backing him to avoid their bout. “You’re a money-hungry squirrel chasing your next nut,” Paul stated, suggesting that big money is preventing what could be a monumental fight between the two.
Turki Alalshikh, head of Riyadh Season, confirmed the agreement, with the first fight scheduled for May in Riyadh, and a potential second fight against Terence Crawford in Las Vegas. Alvarez, known as boxing’s top moneymaker, has leveraged interest in a match with Paul to secure a significant financial commitment from Saudi Arabia.
Paul challenged Alvarez’s status, saying, “You call me a YouTuber, but you’ve never had a boxing match as big as mine,” predicting that any fight Alvarez undertakes this year wouldn’t match the hype of a clash with him. Alvarez holds an impressive record of 62 wins, including 39 by knockout, and previously outpointed Edgar Berlanga in September. Despite being a heavy favourite against Paul, the latter has emerged as a major draw within combat sports.
