The Gold Coast Titans’ hopes of reaching the finals have taken a serious hit following an ankle injury to star player Jaime Chapman during a recent match against the Roosters. The incident occurred in the second half of the Titans’ 24-8 defeat, when Chapman’s leg became trapped during a tackle. She was seen immediately grabbing her knee and ankle, prompting concern from both players and trainers on the field.

Commentator Ruan Sims described the situation as “really uncomfortable,” noting that Chapman appeared to get pinned underneath several Roosters players, leading to her left leg being awkwardly folded. After languishing on the ground for an extended period, she was helped off the field by two trainers, an image that painted a grim picture for the Titans.

Chapman’s injury marred what had already become a challenging afternoon for Gold Coast, as they faced a well-executed performance from the Roosters at Cbus Super Stadium. The match saw Pauline Piliae-Rasabale score the opening try for the Titans, but the Roosters quickly took control, highlighted by Jessica Sergis’s equalising try. The game marked a milestone for Jocelyn Kelleher, who surpassed Raiders captain Zahara Temara to become the all-time leading points scorer in NRLW history.

Despite a consolation try from Phoenix-Raine Hippi on her debut, the Titans’ fate was sealed, and they will drop to ninth position on the ladder due to a poor for-and-against record. The loss leaves the Roosters comfortably atop the standings after round six.

As the Titans process the loss of their key player, the team will need to regroup quickly if they are to salvage their season in the NRLW.
