It’s Not Quite Spring: Australians Advised to Keep Their Umbrellas Handy as More Rain Approaches

The east coast of Australia is preparing for another bout of rain, following significant flooding in parts of New South Wales just last week. Sydney is forecasted to receive up to 30mm of rain over the weekend, likely affecting the City2Surf race, expected to see around 100,000 participants running through the city streets. This event could also experience approximately 10mm of rain, according to reports from Weatherzone.

While the impending rain is not expected to be as severe as the previous weekend—when more than 100mm fell in some areas of the Hunter Valley—adverse weather is anticipated in parts of Queensland, particularly between Hervey Bay and Rockhampton, which are poised for heavy rainfall.

The predicted weather conditions are linked to a northwest cloudband, bringing warm, humid tropical air from the Indian Ocean across Australia. This air is merging with moisture from the Coral Sea, leading to expectations of further wet weather across the eastern coastline.

Additionally, widespread cloud cover will likely bring cooler temperatures in regions away from the coast. Meanwhile, Victoria appears to be less affected, with significant rainfall not on the radar for Melbourne until the following Tuesday.

Thus, as the east coast braces for more rain, the situation continues to develop, emphasising the unpredictable nature of Australian weather.
