Severe weather conditions continue to affect the New South Wales coastline, with multiple evacuation alerts currently in effect. An east coast low, classified as a bomb cyclone, is anticipated to move eastward across the Tasman Sea today, which may reduce heavy rainfall opportunities for the South Coast.
However, hazardous surf warnings have been issued, advising the public to stay away from beaches stretching from Tweed to Eden. The surf is expected to produce waves ranging from five to seven metres, creating dangerous conditions.
Specific areas, including parts of Wamberal and The Entrance on the Central Coast, remain under evacuation orders from the State Emergency Service (SES) due to risks from coastal erosion threatening residential properties. Residents in Sussex Inlet on the South Coast are also being urged to prepare for potential evacuations, with flood warnings and advice issued for several regions throughout the state.
In total, the SES has reported 32 active warnings, with strong winds expected along the coast affecting various regions including Macquarie, Hunter, Sydney, Illawarra, Byron, Coffs, Batemans, and Eden. The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued flood alerts for the Hawkesbury, Nepean, Shoalhaven, Peel, and Snowy rivers, as well as Lake Macquarie and St Georges Basin.
With conditions remaining precarious, residents and visitors are encouraged to stay updated on warnings and take necessary precautions as the cyclone impacts the coast.
