Sam Kerr, the Australian football star, finds herself in a legal predicament following a celebratory evening that turned contentious. Two years ago, after scoring a hat-trick for Chelsea in an FA Cup match, she and her partner Kristie Mewis were celebrating in a London taxi when an altercation occurred. Police have accused Kerr of racially aggravated behaviour towards PC Stephen Lovell, allegedly calling him “stupid” and “white”.
The incident escalated when they were taken to Twickenham police station, where footage from the officer’s bodycam recorded interactions over claims of vandalism, which included vomiting in the taxi and damaging the vehicle’s window. During the exchange, PC Lovell presented Kerr with the option to cover the damage with a $2000 payment to avoid charges, to which she requested to contact Chelsea’s legal team before proceeding.
Kerr’s current focus is on clearing her name, as the outcome of this case could significantly impact her career and public image.
