Authorities are investigating a tragic incident in Sydney’s CBD, where a man and a woman, both in their 40s, fell from an overpass onto Harbour Street near Darling Harbour early this morning. Unfortunately, both individuals succumbed to their injuries prior to the arrival of emergency services.
In response, officers from the Sydney City Police Area Command have set up a crime scene to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Western Distributor, the overpass from which they fell, connects the Anzac Bridge to the Harbour Bridge and is known for heavy traffic flow.
As a result of the incident, two southbound lanes from the Sydney Harbour Bridge have been closed, and traffic is being redirected towards the Anzac Bridge. Motorists are advised to avoid the vicinity to minimise congestion.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or individuals who may have been in the area during the time of the incident. They are particularly interested in dashcam or mobile phone footage. Those with information are encouraged to reach out to Day Street Police Station or contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
This incident has raised significant concern, and police are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the fatalities.
