An investigation has been launched following the tragic death of a 53-year-old woman who was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Glynburn Road in Tranmere on Friday morning. The incident occurred just before 6am, a short distance from traffic lights and near a pedestrian safety zone located in the median strip.
CCTV footage captured the woman walking through a nearby car park before she tried to cross the road amidst dark and rainy weather. She was initially passed by one car, but was hit by a second vehicle—a Honda sedan driven by a 21-year-old man from Hectorville, who had a passenger with him.
Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene but unfortunately, were unable to resuscitate the woman. Major crash investigators spent several hours analysing the area to piece together the details of the incident. A friend of the driver from the accident relayed that the driver had attempted to brake upon seeing the woman cross but could not stop in time.
Local residents have voiced concerns about the safety of crossing Glynburn Road, with some mentioning the numerous vehicles coming in and out of the adjacent car park and the presence of blind spots in side streets.
Authorities are currently scrutinising all factors involved in the accident to ascertain if any party is liable. The investigation is still under progressing.
