South Sydney captain Cameron Murray has expressed that he is still working towards proving his fitness for the upcoming NRL season opener, which takes place on March 7 against the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium. Speaking during the season launch, Murray discussed his recovery from a wrist injury sustained while with the Kangaroos during the Pacific Championships last year. Despite playing a Test against New Zealand with the injury, he was subsequently sidelined and underwent surgery.
Having only recently resumed training without a protective wrist guard, Murray acknowledges that there are several criteria he needs to meet before confirming his availability for round one. He recounted the moment of injury during a training session, prompting a medical evaluation that ultimately led to the recommendation for immediate surgery to prevent further damage.
Murray aims to return to full-contact training soon and plans to make a decision regarding his participation closer to the season start. He is not the only Rabbitohs player worried about fitness; veteran five-eighth Cody Walker is also racing against time to recover from a calf injury, alongside several teammates facing various injuries.
