Commuters in Sydney can travel without concerns for the next two days as the rail unions have decided to delay planned industrial action set to commence today. The proposed slow-down by the combined rail unions was expected to cause significant delays across multiple lines. However, following negotiations, the Rail Train and Bus Union (RTBU) has postponed this action for 48 hours effective from February 12. They are currently in discussions with the new Transport Minister, John Graham, aiming to secure a satisfactory agreement. It’s crucial to note that the potential for industrial action remains on the table for Friday unless a resolution is reached swiftly. Meanwhile, discord is brewing among the unions, with the Electrical Trade Union expressing dissatisfaction over the RTBU’s decision to delay action. They are concerned about transparency in negotiations. Protests have emerged outside the state parliament as ETU members aim to address pay disputes, emphasising the need for unity among unions rather than individual negotiations. Treasurer Daniel Mookhey has indicated that a pay offer is available for the combined rail unions, stressing the importance of providing a wage rise that is both responsible and sustainable for taxpayers.
