Emergency services were summoned to Marana Road in Earlwood at 5.35pm yesterday after a one-year-old girl was discovered unresponsive inside a vehicle. Local residents reported that the child’s father was overwhelmed with distress when he found her lifeless. The devastated parents expressed their sorrow in a statement, describing their daughter as a beloved light in their lives.

The community has been deeply affected by the tragedy, with neighbours, including Amin Moussa, recounting the chaotic scene when the father cried out for help. Efforts were made by locals to assist the child before paramedics arrived, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead.

Authorities believe the child had been left in the car for an extended period on a day when temperatures soared beyond 30 degrees. Christine Erskine from Kids Safe NSW highlighted the tragic frequency of such incidents, often resulting from unplanned changes in routine. She warned that car interiors can heat dramatically, reaching lethal temperatures even on mild days.

The girl’s father was hospitalised due to shock, while her mother is cooperating with investigators. Police are currently piecing together the events leading up to this heart-wrenching incident, aiming to gather more information from the father once he is able. The community has left flowers at the scene as a tribute.
