SCOTTSDALE: Dubbed "The Greatest Show on Grass," the Phoenix Open certainly lives up to its reputation. Although I have never been particularly fond of golf, attending the launch of PGA Tour 2K25 presented a great opportunity to experience this renowned event firsthand.

I found the atmosphere electrifying, even during the initial practice days before the tournaments began. The crowd, vibrant and diverse, included families with young children eagerly hoping to spot their favourite players, alongside long-time fans in their 70s and 80s. Music from DJs added to the lively vibe, as drinks flowed and excitement built throughout the day.

What struck me most was the accessibility. Spectators could easily wander around the course and engage with the environment, a far cry from many other sporting events. Reports suggest up to 280,000 fans might flood TPC Scottsdale on Saturday, underscoring the event’s monumental appeal compared to other major golf tournaments.

Defending champion Nick Taylor will be vying for a share of the impressive $14.64 million prize fund against a field of elite competitors. Australia’s LIV Golf Adelaide aims to replicate this festive atmosphere to attract younger audiences. Though I’m unlikely to take up golf anytime soon, my experience at the Phoenix Open has certainly broadened my perspective on this captivating sport.
