Beth Mooney once again showcased her exceptional talent as a wicketkeeper-batter during a recent T20 match against New Zealand, marking her 200th international appearance in style. In a commanding performance at Auckland’s Eden Park, Mooney led Australia to an impressive eight-wicket victory, successfully chasing down a target of 137 runs with 39 balls remaining.

Mooney scored a brilliant 75 runs off just 42 deliveries, including ten boundaries and a six, while also contributing with a catch behind the stumps. She was well-supported by her opening partner, Georgia Voll, who added 50 runs from 31 balls, hitting nine fours along the way. The winning runs came from Mooney’s elegant shot, where she drove fast bowler Rosemary Mair through cover to complete the chase in the 14th over. This followed an explosive six hit off Lea Tahuhu, demonstrating her strong batting form.

Earlier in the match, New Zealand had set their total of 137 runs, with Australian bowlers Darcie Brown and Tahlia McGrath playing pivotal roles in restricting the Kiwis.

After the game, Mooney reflected on her milestone and how the team celebrated. She shared that her teammates had prepared some speeches and a heartfelt video featuring messages from close friends and family, making her feel appreciated within the squad. “I feel pretty lucky and valued in this Australian line-up,” Mooney remarked, acknowledging the significance of her 200 matches and adding with a hint of humour about getting older, “It probably just means I’m getting a bit older and I’ve had 200 warm-ups behind me.”

Looking ahead, the second T20 of the series is set to take place at Mount Maunganui on Sunday, with the series concluding in Wellington the following Wednesday.
