Lando Norris has dismissed the suggestion that the Formula 1 championship is a “two-horse race”, labelling a reporter’s claim as “silly.” The British driver, currently just three points behind his teammate Oscar Piastri, expressed his fatigue with continual questions regarding the title landscape during a press conference at the Circuit de Catalunya before the Spanish Grand Prix.
Norris maintained that his performance and mindset have not altered since winning in Monaco and that he does not focus on the points standings. “It’s not something I look at,” he stated, reiterating that while it feels gratifying to lead the championship, it doesn’t influence his daily routine or training regimen. His approach remains consistent as he aims for victory, regardless of his current ranking.
Despite recent adjustments in front wing flexibility tests, which may have benefited McLaren, Norris remained adamant that the entire grid remains competitive. He pointed out that mathematically, all teams still have a chance at the title. “If you think it’s just between Oscar and me, then I think you’re a bit silly,” he remarked.
Norris highlighted that other contenders, like Max Verstappen and teams like Ferrari, cannot be overlooked, as they continue to be strong competitors throughout the season. He’s confident that multiple opportunities lie ahead for various teams to claim the championship. His comments reflect his determination and a clear understanding that the F1 race is still very much open, contrary to opinions suggesting otherwise.
