Manly Sea Eagles’ Jake Trbojevic has opened up about the viral moment captured in the dressing room following his team’s impressive 18-16 victory over the Melbourne Storm in Round 20. The unexpected win, a significant upset against last season’s strong competitors, secured Manly’s position in the top eight as they approach the finals.
The highlight of the night, aside from the win, was Trbojevic’s exuberant celebration, which was widely shared on social media. Footage aired on Fox League showed the passionate forward kicking a few bottles in sheer joy, reflecting his adrenaline-fuelled excitement. However, Trbojevic admitted he was unaware that his antics were being recorded at the time.
“I was just overwhelmed with happiness after the victory,” he told 2GB’s _Wide World of Sports Radio_. “It was all instinctive joy, and I felt a bit silly afterwards, especially having to help clean up!” Despite his initial embarrassment upon realising he had drawn attention, he was still pleased with the performance, stating that the win was a testament to the team’s efforts after a frustratingly inconsistent season.
This season has been particularly challenging for the 31-year-old, who has faced injuries and lost his position as captain of the NSW Blues. Nonetheless, Trbojevic expressed his commitment to the Sea Eagles, clarifying that he has no plans to leave the club he has been with since his youth. While speculation surrounding his future continues, he hinted at the possibility of a contract extension with his brother Tom, affirming, “I will definitely always play at the Sea Eagles, for sure.”
Looking ahead, the Sea Eagles are set to take on the Bulldogs in Round 21 at Allianz Stadium, aiming to build on their recent success as they gear up for the finals.
