Tiger Woods has announced that he underwent surgery this week to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon, marking yet another setback in his ongoing battle with injuries. He shared the news via his social media channels but did not specify how long he anticipates being sidelined.

In his statement, Woods explained that while ramping up his training at home, he experienced a sharp pain in his left Achilles, which turned out to be a rupture. The procedure, carried out by Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, was a minimally invasive repair, and Woods reported that it went smoothly. Now at home, he plans to concentrate on his rehabilitation and recovery, expressing gratitude for the support he’s received throughout his journey.

Historically, ruptured Achilles tendons in sports, including rugby league, often lead to lengthy absences from the game, with players typically out for over six months. While minimally invasive surgeries tend to require smaller incisions and allow for quicker recovery, it generally still takes around a month before one can bear weight on the affected foot.

The upcoming Masters tournament, scheduled for April 10-14, looms large on the calendar, notably as Woods holds the record for making the cut at the event 24 consecutive times. However, his competitive presence has significantly diminished since a serious car accident in 2021, which left him with severe leg injuries. Since his last competitive outing at the British Open, when he missed the cut, Woods has only played a single round—18 holes in an indoor league—indicating a prolonged absence from high-level golf.

While fans remain hopeful for his return, the timeline for Woods’ full recovery remains uncertain, creating speculation about his participation in the Masters and potentially other major championships this year. As he embarks on this next phase of rehab, all eyes will be on the legendary golfer to see how he manages to overcome yet another hurdle in his storied career.
