Ice Cube, the prominent American rap artist and co-CEO of Big3 Basketball, has announced an exciting partnership with the National Basketball League (NBL) to introduce his basketball format to Australian cities later this year. This revelation coincided with his exclusive two-show tour in Melbourne and Sydney, where he captivated audiences over the weekend.
In an interview with 9News, Cube expressed his surprise at how his journey in music, which began as a hobby, has led him to Australia. The collaboration with the NBL aims to bring the highly popular three-on-three basketball league, Big3, to Australia in November. The inaugural Big3 Showcase will take place in various Australian cities, including Melbourne, with the objective of fostering interest in the league among local fans.
Drawing inspiration from street basketball, the 3×3 format is played on a half-court with teams of three players competing against one another. Cube described the appeal of this unique style of basketball, which he feels is incredibly entertaining.
As part of his role, Cube plans to represent the league actively, engaging with fans and potentially showcasing his musical talent during halftime shows. Further details regarding this partnership and the showcase event are anticipated to be released later in the year.
