This happens when individuals do not update their information following changes such as closing a bank account or switching banks. The demographic most affected includes young Australians aged 18 to 25, highlighting the importance of checking their Medicare arrangements.
To reclaim any owed money, individuals simply need to log in to their MyGov account and verify that their bank details are correct. Once any necessary updates are made, Medicare typically processes refunds quickly, often within three days. Bott advises that it is not just individuals who should check, but also parents and grandparents, as funds could be owed to younger family members as well.
